GU10 halogen bulbs have been around for many years. While it provided plenty of light, it was also hot to the touch. Not only does this make replacing equipment difficult, but more heat means a shorter lifespan. The newer GU10 LED models have addressed this complication. An acronym for “Light-Emitting Diode,” LED bulbs produce very little heat. They come in a variety of colors and are very energy efficient. Perhaps most importantly, GU10 LED bulbs will last thousands of hours longer than traditional halogen bulbs.

For living rooms, hallways, decks, and bedrooms, warm white is often preferred, as these bulbs give off a warm, slightly yellowish warm glow. The GU10 emits more pure white. GU10 LED bulbs come in cool white and are ideal for kitchens and bathrooms as they offer a fresher, clearer color and are perfect for task work. For offices and commercial properties, GU10 LED bulbs in “daylight” color give the most natural light.

The GU10 spotlight bulb is a very common bulb designed specifically for GU10 spotlights and recessed downlights. The name comes from the pin spacing, where two pins are spaced 10mm apart. While GU10 bulbs were previously available as halogen and compact fluorescent lamps, the current phase-out of these bulbs means GU10 LED bulbs are the most common remaining option.
